The research, commissioned by Jacamo, looked at body confidence and found there was a large difference between what men think women want – and what women actually want in a man.
For example, 62% of men felt that women prefer the 'gladiator' look on a man and they would worry when they don't fit the description. Men believe that a woman's ideal partner would have Justin Bieber's hair, Hugh Jackman's arms, the chiselled facial features of Gerard Butler and Cristiano Ronaldo's legs.
However, when women were asked what they look for in a potential partner they were not in agreement. They would rather have someone with a cheeky smile like Prince Harry's, Paddy McGuinness' arms and Ben Cohen's abs. Perhaps more surprisingly though, they would like a man who has legs like Jonathan Ross.
Those men with well-toned bodies were initially said to be regarded as attractive, but those who are a little more 'rounded' and who fit the 'boy next door' image are the ones women really want to be with. So much so, that 72% of women said they would like to form a lasting relationship with the 'boy next door' type.
A spokesperson for Jacamo is quoted as saying: "Women tell us that men with ordinary bodies are seen as good family makers who pay more attention to their partners than they do to themselves.
"While hunks will always catch the eye, many women regard them as bad bets in the long run because they may be self-obsessed and more concerned with their own looks and needs rather than anyone else."
