However, sharing the news during an interview with the New York Post's Page Six at Sunday night's Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, the actress revealed that the decision was made because of her partner's upcoming role in the movie Magic Mike XXL.
Is is understood the couple had planned to marry this summer, but Manganiello's filming and promotional commitments in relation to the movie have clashed with their big day.
Ms Vergara, 42, told the publication: "It's killing me. We wanted to get married this summer, but Joe will be busy working and promoting Magic Mike 2.
"We want to get married at a time when we can get away and make time for a honeymoon. So the wedding will probably be later this year."
Manganiello, 38, added: "I would love to get married this summer, but I'm going to be too busy promoting my male stripper movie."
The couple started dating in July 2014, shortly after Vergara ended her engagement to Nick Loeb. On Christmas Day, after five months together, Manganiello proposed during a holiday to Hawaii.
