According to The Mirror, Amy Ewing, 26, and 32-year-old Alex Simmons had 130 bridesmaids and 100 ushers for their ceremony which took place earlier this week.
The large number meant the couple's wedding ceremony became a Double Guinness World Record event, setting a new record for 'Most Ushers to One Groom', which was previously 47, and 'Most Bridesmaids to One Bride', which was previously 126.
It was the first time the records had been attempted in the UK, and the newspaper has reported that the attempts have been lodged and approved by The Guinness Book of World Records.
Explaining how their big day was made possible, the couple admitted they had won a £110,000 wedding in a competition and decided to make the most of the opportunity. The competition on Facebook was organised by bridal shop owner Abbi Lewis, who was looking to pull off a record-breaking wedding and she wanted a couple to take part. In order to qualify for the record, the couple had to know each of their bridesmaids and ushers; this resulted in the bride getting in touch with her female friends from around the world, while the groom, who is a DJ and television presenter, called on rugby league players Danny Kirmond and Jamie Jones-Buchanan to be part of the ceremony.
Local companies donated their services to the couple's wedding, including the bridesmaids dresses – worth £35,000 – and the suits, values at around £13,000.
The Mirror has said Ms Lewis managed to organise the big day for free and within the space of just five months.
Mr Simmons is quoted by the paper as saying: "I wouldn't say I had to convince Amy but I hadn't known her long. When we entered the competition we weren't even engaged. We knew we had to take the opportunity.
"There is no way with kids we would have been able to afford this ourselves. This had made our dreams come true. The fact we can have everyone there is amazing."
The couple, who have four children between them from previous relationships, are currently expecting their first child together. The pair met at a charity event last summer.
