Man Remanded In Custody Over Wedding Murder

A man from Co Longford in Ireland, accused of shooting his uncle dead outside a wedding earlier this month, has been remanded in custody.

According to reports, Patrick McGinley, 46, was remanded in custody over the weekend. He has been accused of shooting his uncle, 63-year-old Bernard 'Barney' McGinley outside a Traveller wedding on 11 February. The ceremony was taking place at St Mary's Catholic Church in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh. The victim was airlifted to hospital following the shooting but he died from his injuries.

It is understood the accused is an uncle of the bride.

He did not apply for bail at this stage, his solicitor said, but added that an application was likely to be made in the future. Mr McGinley, who is said to have presented himself voluntarily to police last week, has been remanded in custody to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court, via videolink, on 16 March.
