The actor and his wife Sophie Hunter announced last month that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple, who tied the knot in a private ceremony on the Isle of Wight last weekend, have recently been spotted at a number of red carpet events as the movie awards season continues. However, speaking to the Daily Mail, Cumberbatch, who has been nominated for a 'Best Actor' Oscar for his role in The Imitation Game, admitted he is can't wait until he is able to take some time away from the spotlight and "do some nesting" with his wife.
He explained to Baz Bamigboye at the publication: "I've been on muddy fields and on horseback playing Richard III for the BBC and I've been on more flights to Los Angeles and back than I can count.
"All of that has been special, but I'm ready to have a couple of months to ourselves to prepare for the baby and do some nesting. It's a real-life role, not a part."
He added that he will enjoy the time with his wife before he heads back to work in late May.
Cumberbatch, 38, and Hunter, 36, first met in 2009 when they starred opposite each other in Burlesque Fairytales, but they were only spotted together publicly in June 2014 when they attended the French Open.
In November 2014, they confirmed their engagement and on Valentine's Day this year, they tied the knot.
