Man Arrested Over Wedding Murder

Police investigating the murder of a man at a wedding in Northern Ireland last week have arrested a 46-year-old man in Belfast.

Detective Chief Inspector Una Jennings said the man had been arrested on Wednesday and was being questioned at a police station in the city.


Bernard McGinley, 63, was shot close to a Catholic church in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh, last week. A Traveller community wedding was due to take place at the church at the time. It later went ahead as planned.

Mr McGinley was airlifted to hospital by PSNI helicopter after the shooting, but he died from his injuries. One other man was injured in the shooting incident.

Enquiries are continuing.
