According to the Daily Mail, Adrian Linham, 43, was married to his wife Liz for seven years before she discovered his deception. However, rather than Mr Linham come clean to his partner, she discovered the news when her mother-in-law got in touch to say she was sorry to hear the couple had divorced.
Liz explained that she thought her marriage was a happy one, but said her husband was often away from home because of his job as a scuba diving instructor. However, for three years of these business trips, Mr Linham was actually spending time with his then-girlfriend Hayley Totterdell – who lived just 16 miles away. The couple then married in Riviera Maya in May 2014 – the same place where he had spent his honeymoon with his first wife.
It is understood Ms Totterdell's family had no idea of Linham's marital status. His first wife, meanwhile, only discovered his second wedding when her mother-in-law wrote her a letter.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Liz explained: "I got a letter from his mum on 21 August 2014. It said that she was sorry to hear Adrian and I had gotten divorced and that she hoped I was dealing with it ok.
"She then went on to say that she had been on Facebook and seen Linham's wedding pictures to Hayley and hoped that his new marriage hadn't affected me too much."
She then went onto Facebook and saw the photos for herself. Incredibly, her husband still denied the accusations when she later confronted him. Liz then decided to contact the police over her partner's actions. At North Somerset Courthouse, Weston-super-Mare, earlier this week, Mr Linham pleaded guilty to one count of bigamy. He was sentenced to 17 weeks in prison and ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation. He is also subject to a restraining order. It is understood Linham has started divorce proceedings.
