Last year, it was reported that the mass murderer had been granted permission to marry Ms Burton. The license had a 90-day timeframe, and is due to expire this Thursday. However, weddings are only held at the California State Prison, Corcoran, at weekends and US prison officials have since confirmed no ceremony took place last weekend. It means the couple are unable to marry unless they apply for a new license.
Manson, 80, was convicted of the murders of seven people, including actress Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski, and an unborn child in 1969. He was jailed for life and is not eligible to apply for parole again until 2027. Burton, 26, first met Manson after months of writing to him in prison. She then left her home in Illinois to be closer to the Central California prison where Manson is an inmate. She maintains he is innocent of the murders.
