The study, conducted by Nurofen Cold and Flu, found that men will put up with a poorly partner for an average of 19 hours, compared to women who will last for just 16 hours.
In addition, men are said to be better at hiding their irritation when their other half overreacts about their illness. They are also more likely to be at their partner's "beck and call" when they are sick and are more willing to carry out messages.
However, when it comes to "playing up their symptoms", 40% of men will do this in order to gain attention.
Interestingly, women are more likely to be run down than men, with 77% of females admitting they just have to get on with things when they are suffering from a cold. Sometimes though, this lack of empathy can cause issues in a relationship. For example, a third of men claimed they had argued with their other half because they were not sympathetic enough.
Elsewhere, 80% of women felt things take longer to do when they have a cold or the flu, compared to two-thirds of men surveyed.
