Couples Argue Over Movie Choices - Study

Deciding which movie to watch is one of the biggest causes of conflict in a couple's relationship, new research has claimed.

The survey, carried out by Pringles, revealed that while many might praise their choice in films, their partner isn't so sure – and it's usually men who will suffer.

The average person is now said to spend a massive 590 minutes watching films they hate, just so they can avoid an argument with their other half. 80% of men admit they have to go along with watching their partner's questionable film choice each month – compared to just 23% of women.

When it comes to film choices, its probably not surprising to discover that rom-coms top the list of men's movie hates, while women disapprove of horror movies.

It's not just films that can cause couples to fall out however, with habits such as poor hygiene, looking at an ex-partner's Facebook page and who is responsible for cooking, also making the top 10 irritating habits list.

Leaving clothes lying on the floor topped the list, with 34% of women saying this was a bugbear, compared to 19% of men; while bad bathroom habits – such as leaving hairs in the shower plug – featured in third place with 26% of the vote.

20% complained about a partner going through their social networking accounts at the dinner table, with the same amount annoyed when their other half used their phone when in bed. Other irritations include eating straight out of the fridge, and not washing dirty plates.

The top 10 irritating habits for couples are:

1. Leaving clothes on the floor

2. Leaving wet towels around the house

3. Bad bathroom habits

4. Always using the phone

5. Disagreeing about what film to watch

6. Messy eating habits

7. Deciding who is cooking

8. Picking your nose

9. Drunk sexting

10. Looking at your ex's Facebook page
