Speaking to The Sun on Sunday's Fabulous magazine, the 43-year-old made the revelation after images recently emerged of her ex-partner and his new girlfriend.
Reid told the publication: "We still get on so well, Dom is still such a hands-on dad and we really co-parent. So we live separately but together and happily in the same house.
"I'm not saying everybody can do it and I definitely think people are surprised that we can do it this way, but it's nice for the children that they know mum and dad are still there.
"I'm privileged to have a great relationship with my ex, to the point where we can live together comfortably and he can have a new relationship."
She added that while the couple never actually married, she is "trying... to have as good a 'divorce' as possible. But I do understand it might seem unusual."
News of the couple's separation emerged in February of this year when Cotton was discovered to have set up a profile on a dating website. His partner later confirmed the couple were no longer in a relationship.
The pair dated for 16 years and have three children together, Sam, 12, Finn, 10, and nine-year-old Jack.
