According to a new study by travel website sunshine.co.uk, many men believe they are responsible for having a final say in their holiday destination. But, for three quarters of women, they disagree, saying they just engineered the situation to make their partner think they made all the decisions.
For example, almost 2,000 people were polled for the survey, and when asked: "Who had the final say or decided on the holiday destination for the last holiday that both you and your partner were present on?", 62% of men said it was them.
However, 74% of women said they had picked the holiday destination – with 52% saying they even made their partner think the decision was actually theirs. 35% of women confessed to using reverse psychology on their partner, while 14% just dropped hints and suggestions.
It doesn't always appear to work however, as 37% of those who took part in the survey admitted to having an argument with their other half when they tried to decide on a holiday destination. When asked why the disagreement occurred, 54% said it was because they both had "different preferences/tastes", while 31% blamed indecisiveness.
And when it comes to actually booking the trip away, the decision-maker takes an average of five weeks to decide on a destination.
Commenting on the findings, Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said: "Deciding where to go on holiday is no easy task; there is a whole world to see out there after all.
"Sure you can keep going back to the same resort year after year, but where's the fun in that?
"There's no use arguing with your partner or relatives about where to go, though. The best thing to do is to sit down and come to a decision together, picking a place that will please everyone who's going."
