In July, the former Girls Aloud singer revealed she had married her French boyfriend after meeting just three months earlier. However, in n interview with OK! magazine, the 31-year-old has hit back at those who have criticised her decision.
Explaining her decision to marry, she said: "It was my heart and my head. I'm not an 18-year-old, I'm a 31-year-old woman and I know what I'm doing. I'm doing what makes me happy and that is what is right for me."
She added that after a couple of tough years, she finally learned to be happy, which in turn, allowed her to find love again.
"[Jean-Bernard] makes me happy, but he's not the reason, because I was happy beforehand," she commented. "And if I hadn't been happy, I wouldn't have been open to the relationship."
The X Factor judge also opened up about starting a family with her husband, but further down the line.
"I love babies, but not quite yet. I mean, never say never, you can never say never in life. Full stop. About anything," she said.
Cheryl and Jean-Bernard married in secret in July on the Caribbean island of Mustique. Just four guests were in attendance.
