The research, conducted by Escentual.com, asked 1,000 women about their thoughts on men's facial hair, just as the charity campaign Movember gets underway for another year.
51% admitted they prefer the 'bushy beard' look on a man rather than the clean shaven or stubble look; while 82% of those surveyed felt that a man with a beard looked more masculine. More than two-thirds of women also said they would prefer to date a man who had a beard. For others, they said they had asked, or would think of asking, their partner to grow a beard if he was clean shaven. A further 38% said they would not tend to be attracted to a man if they couldn't grow a beard, arguing that it would "make them appear juvenile".
Interestingly, 84% of women said they find men who take pride in their appearance to be more attractive than those who don't, but added that is as long as they don't take it too far. Almost the same amount of females (82%), said poor grooming skills in a potential partner is a turn-off.
A spokesperson for Escentual.com said: "At the moment we are seeing a huge craze for beards that are fuller, but exceptionally neat and well kept. The smart, masculine look has been a top trend for men in 2014 and it doesn't look to be going anywhere soon."
