56% Of Couples Argue On Holiday

A new survey has found that 56% of couples argue while on holiday.

Among the issues most likely to start a row include driving instructions, money and places to eat.

In fact, the study, commissioned by comparison site TravelSupermarket to help promote map-reading skills with Ordnance Survey, found that 39% of couples will fight over directions when they are on holiday. Younger couples are more likely to have the "Where are we?" argument; with 38% of those in their 20s experiencing such a row, compared to 21% of couples in their 60s.

A further 18% of respondents admitted they argue over money, while 14% disagree over where they should eat or drink while on holiday.

Elsewhere, 55% of men felt they were better at reading maps than women. Compared to women, they are also three times more likely to boast about the fact that they ended a relationship with a partner following a map-reading related argument.

Bob Atkinson, of TravelSupermarket, commented: "Exploring a country should be fun, whether you're finding your way around a city or hitting the open road in a hire car.

"It's disappointing a key element of this, map reading, is the major cause of relationship strains on our holidays. With such a large number of couples are falling out with loved ones while away, we want to promote the skills of map reading and in raising this issue we are going to do just that."
