The singer's latest single, Don't, has been labelled as a bitter break-up track in which the 23-year-old refers to a cheating "singer ex".
While Sheeran has never named who the subjects of his song are about, many have speculated that he is referring to Ellie Goulding and One Direction's Niall Horan.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the singer explained that despite being angry at the time, he has now forgiven them. He said: "I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song. It's a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That's the end of it.
"I'm grateful I could get a song out of it, to be honest. I don't feel it's about anyone anymore, I'm not attached to that. The moment you attach to someone to a song it becomes more difficult to sing every night."
Sheeran and Goulding were first said to be a couple in August last year after they were spotted holding hands during the MTV VMA ceremony. Goulding was quick to deny the claims, but Sheeran said otherwise, commenting: "I mean, normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends."
