The meeting was chaired by Sligo-Leitrim Labour Senator Susan O' Keeffe, with Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD, Minister of State with responsibility for New Communities, Culture and Equality also speaking at the event.
Niamh Hayes, Co-Chair of Labour LGBT said: "I'm delighted that this meeting is taking place, as it's important that we mobilise people early on in this debate. Next year we will have an opportunity to ensure that Ireland becomes a truly equal society by allowing same sex couples to marry, and we need to put all of our efforts behind this important cause. I commend Susan and Aodhán for giving the public a chance to have their say with the meeting in Sligo tonight, and wish them the best of luck with it."
