The survey, carried out by thediamondstore.co.uk, found that there tend to be seven keys signs to suggest a man is about to propose to their partner.
The firm asked a number of women if their other half exhibited any odd behaviour before they proposed, and a large proportion of respondents said they had.
For example, 27% women said they noticed their now-husbands being more careful with money in the run up to their proposal, with the man opting to cook a meal, rather than go out for dinner or buy a takeaway. A further 17% of women said their men whisked them away to a foreign destination so they could propose in style, with Venice being a popular choice.
Almost half of the females polled noticed their partner had started having lunch with their sister, or having quiet conversations her friends or family members. These women said it was a hint that he was researching what kind of engagement ring they would like.
Other men (67%) were found to search for engagement rings online, with many failing to clear their internet history; while 36% of women said their partner suddenly became fascinated with diamonds, whether it was a celebrity's engagement ring, or one of their friends.
Some 17% of women also said their boyfriend ruined their proposal plans, by suggesting their partner should go and get a manicure.
