According to reports, the policy is said to have been designed to attract – and keep – top female talent at the companies, by helping women avoid having to choose between becoming a mother or improving their career opportunities.
It is understood Facebook have been offering the 'incentive' for its American-based employees since the beginning of the year. Apple are thought to be introducing a similar policy in January 2015.
In a statement, Apple is quoted as saying: "We continue to expand our benefits for women, with a new extended maternity leave policy, along with cryopreservation and egg storage as part of our extensive support for infertility treatment."
"We want to empower women at Apple to do the best work of their lives as they care for loved ones and raise their families," the firm added.
Both companies are said to be offering up to $20,000 (£12,500) for US employees, covered by their insurance plans, to finance the procedure to extract the eggs and to store them.
The 'incentive' has been met with a mixed response.
