The couple were in a short-lived relationship after meeting in the Australian jungle in reality television show 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' last year.
The pair were said to have grown close during their time on the show, and shortly after they both left the jungle, it was reported they were an item.
Willerton, 22, and Essex, 24, both confirmed their relationship at the time, but just a few weeks later denied the had been together.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday in a recent interview, however, Willerton has hit out at her ex-boyfriend, describing it as an unhappy time in her life.
She explained: "The attention after we left the show was really hard for me. While Joey had a strong management team behind him, I didn't really have anybody in my corner.
"It was a was a really one-sided situation – I kind of just got left and fed to the wolves."
Essex, who has published his own autobiography, claims that the pair slept together the second night after they left the jungle, but the former Miss Universe contestant replied: "I haven't read the book. What can I do about it anyway?
"I'm not going to go chasing after every single person who has said something bad about me. I want to live a happy life – I tend to ignore the bad."
Willerton and Essex separated in January this year.
