On average each month, parents were found to spend £633 on their children, which accumulates to £7,602 a year.
Elsewhere, between the ages of nine and 11, they are said to be the most expensive years to feed a child. The monthly spend on food for this age was found to be £87; for those with children aged five to eight years old, they spent £71 per month.
The estimated costs were compiled from around 1,000 parents who had children under the age of 11.
The average monthly cost of raising a child, up to the age of 11, involves:
• Food – £77.41
• Schooling – £44.85
• Holidays – £59.17
• Clothes – £38.81
• Toys – £23.42
• Leisure and hobbies – £39.23
• Furniture – £18.35
• Personal care – £20.64
• Childcare – £311.66
