While holidays are supposed to be a time for rest and relaxation, they can also prove a turning point in relationships, a new survey has claimed.
The study, commissioned by travel website sunshine.co.uk, found that many Britons come to a 'revelation' when they go on holiday, whether in relation to their job, family or love life.
In fact, of the 2,110 people who took part in the poll, 73% said they had a 'revelation' when they were on holiday.
36% said they realised they were unhappy with their job, while 21% said they were not happy in their relationship. When it comes to romance, however, 52% said they believed their relationship had actually improved while they were on holiday, making them grow closer to their other half.
Wanting to start a family (3%), spending more time with family (19%) and needing distance from certain people (2%) also made the list of holiday revelations.
Comparing how much happier they were on holiday than when they were back home in the UK, 88% of respondents admitted they were "much happier".
Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said: "Holidays offer a lot of thinking time. They are a great opportunity to put things in perspective.
"Many people will realise that they are unhappy in their jobs only when they have the time to switch off from it all completely on holiday, or that they've fallen out of love with their partner when they have to spend seven to 14 straight days with them.
"These holiday revelations offer us the chance to realise the changes we have to make once we get home."
