Contestants Pull Out Of Wedding Reality Show

A reality television show, where couples marry at first sight, has suffered a set back – after a number of contestants decided to pull out.

The show, Married At First Sight, asks strangers to agree to marry on their first meeting, on the recommendations of four experts; a sexologist, spiritualist, psychologist and sociologist.

A similar version of the show has already aired in the US – with mixed results – but the Channel 4 version was due to be filmed this month. It has now reported to have been pushed back to 2015 as those behind the show struggle to find people to take part.

A source close to the show told the MailOnline: "There have been plenty of applicants. It is not that there has been a lack of interest it's just that there's such a stringent list of criteria for matching that they want to make sure they pick exactly the right people."

The premise behind Married At First Sight sees a number of experts carry out a number of experiments and techniques to match individuals according to their compatibility. The paired-up couple, then legally marry on their first meeting, with their family and friends in attendance.

They must then spend a month living together as husband and wife, getting to know each other, before they decide whether to stay together, or divorce.

Alex Menzies, Commissioning Editor of Features at Channel 4, told The Independent: "We remain very excited about the project; it's a very ambitious premise and it's a calculated risk. All we are doing is rightly taking longer to do it correctly, making sure that we fulfil our obligations in terms of duty of care both to our contributors, the integrity of the process and to the Channel 4 audience.

"We are not looking for people who are doing this because they want to be on television; we are looking for people who are doing this because they want to try a completely different tack to try and find love."
