The news comes just days after the couple revealed they are expecting their first child together.
The Coronation Street actress shared her engagement news via her Twitter account, telling her fans: "So pleased to tell you all that I'm going to be Mrs Pitfield :-) I said YES!!! Love you @TP_PTfitness So happy :-) what a year!!!"
Last week, in an interview with Hello magazine, the 30-year old opened up about the changes she has experienced in her life over the past year, including meeting her husband-to-be.
She explained: "It's like everything has gone fast forward, but it's not remotely scary.
"If you'd told me that before my next birthday, I was going to meet someone as amazing as Tom, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, that we were going to be planning for our first baby – I would not have believed you in a million years. It's crazy."
It is thought the couple's baby is due in March 2015.
