On Saturday evening, a Metropolitan Police helicopter was flying over London's Gladstone Park when it came across the proposal. Despite the incident happening around midnight, it is understood the message 'Will you marry me?' was spelled out with candles, and had been picked up by the helicopter's heat sensitive camera. It also managed to catch the author of the sweet message down on one knee as he proposed to his partner.
The officers said they were searching for a stolen car when they came across the message. Deciding to try and get to the bottom of the proposal, a series of messages appeared on the MPS Helicopter – @MPSinthesky – Twitter account over the weekend.
The first read: "We think we have just seen the most romantic guy in north London. More later! #willyoumarryme?"
This was later followed with the more direct: "To continue.. who were the lucky couple in Gladstone Park just before midnight? #willyoumarryme?
"Does anyone know who the newly engaged couple are as we have great photos to share with them?"
The two tweets were quickly shared on the social networking site to try and identify the couple, and it didn't take long to track them down – and share the good news.
The final tweet sent by MPSinthesky confirmed: "Thanks to one of our followers we have found the mystery proposal couple! They wish to remain anonymous, however... she did say yes!! ;-)".
