The Coronation Street actress confirmed her happy news in an interview with Hello magazine.
The 30-year-old also discussed her relationship with fitness trainer Tom Pitfield and the changes her personal life has undergone over the last 12 months.
She explained: "It's like everything has gone fast forward, but it's not remotely scary. If you'd told me that before my next birthday, I was going to meet someone as amazing as Tom, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, that we were going to be planning for our first baby – I would not have believed you in a million years. It's crazy."
She added that her pregnancy "just feels 100% right", saying: "[That] is very different for me because I am the world's most indecisive person. I will ask everybody's opinion on everything, whereas I am totally sure about this."
It is thought the couple's baby is due in March 2015.
