The couple have been the subject of speculation for a while, but it is the first time the singer has addressed the rumours.
In an interview with Heat magazine, the 19-year-old admitted the pair have been dating for the past 18 months and the relationship is going from strength to strength.
She said: "I'm going out with a guy called Steve, Steve Rushton, and we've written California [her new single] together – [me, Tim and Steve] – we're writing the whole album together as well. Me and Steve have worked together for about two-and-a-half years, it's kind of nice because I've got a best friend on the road with me all the time so it's pretty nice.
"There's a good chemistry there and I think you definitely need chemistry to write a song and we really do have fun while we're writing, you can’' just ask for that, it just comes naturally.
"There's one particular song off the album that's about the two of us, it's kind of like a 'you get me for who I am'... It's just a really nice fun, romantic pop song really. I can't say what the song is called, sorry."
Addressing her relationship with Rushton, both personally and professionally, the singer added: "We've been together a year-and-a-half officially, but everyone could always see this little chemistry between us but we always tried to avoid it. We're very professional and we were worried about that at first but we as long as you keep your head down and keep focused that's the most important thing."
Rushton, 26, was previously in a relationship with Miley Cyrus.
