Oliver was the top option for boys' names across the UK, while Muhammed was said to be the most popular in London and the West Midlands. Other names surging in popularity over the past year include George and it now joins Harry and William in the top 10 list of boys names.
Oscar and George replaced Alfie and Riley in the top 10 most popular names, jumping from number 17 to 7 and number 12 to 10, respectively. Looking at the 100 most popular boys' names, there were six new entries in total – Teddy (86), Ibrahim (89) and Ronnie (90). Felix (91), Austin (94) and Albert (99) also made the top 100. They replaced Rhys, Ellis, Kayden, Bailey, Taylor and Kyle.
There were also fallers in the list, such as Cameron, which dropped 16 places, while Callum, Liam, Tyler and Riley also declined in popularity.
For the girls, Amelia remains the favourite name for the third consecutive year, with Olivia and Emily rounding off the top three. There were also three new entries in the top 100 most popular girls' names – Victoria (88), Darcy (93) and Beatrice (95). Keira and Caitlin both fell out of the top 100.
Elsie, for the second year in a row, had the largest surge in popularity and is now 47 on the list, while Ivy (68) and Violet (78) also climbed highly, as did Willow, Sofia and Mollie.
Other names like Hollie, Madison and Amy remained within the top 100, but showed a fall in popularity.
