In fact, of the 500 new mothers polled, 73% feel their baby has a better wardrobe than they do.
The findings, commissioned and published by Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure, also revealed that a woman's spending on fashion halves when they become a mother; from an average of £57 a month before pregnancy, to £29 a month after they give birth.
A further 87% said that impractical pre-baby clothes such as high heels, statement jewellery and beaded tops are of no use when they become a mum; while 28% said they had no inspiration as to what to wear after they gave birth. One in four also said they have no suitable clothes to wear when breastfeeding their baby. When it comes to the most hated clothing by new mums, tight clothing topped the list (41%), followed by buttons (18%), unnatural fabrics (14%), scratchy textures (13%) and zips (7%).
Once a baby comes along, new mums were also found to spend less time caring about their appearance, with one in three admitting they rarely – if ever – look in the mirror. They are also likely to spend 64% less time getting ready in the morning after becoming a parent.
Michelle Kimber, brand manager for Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure, said: "Our research shows that mums can lack inspiration and feel they have no time for themselves once baby arrives.
"We know that mums want more information and advice about dressing post-baby and that's why we have teamed up with Grace Woodward to help mums get their style mojo back and feel as great about their new look as they do with their new, exciting life."
Grace Woodward, a celebrity stylist and former judge on television show Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model, has teamed up with the firm to produce a post-pregnancy style guide for new mothers.
