Fall In Scotland's Birth Rate Recorded

Newly released statistics have revealed that the number of births in Scotland have fallen over the past year.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS), has published its 'Scotland's Population 2013 – the Registrar General's Annual Review of Demographic Trends', which includes figures on births, stillbirths, adoptions, marriages and civil partnerships to name but a few.

Among the findings, it was revealed that the estimated population of the country on 30 June 2013, was 5,327,700 – its highest ever level. Elsewhere, there were 56,014 births registered in Scotland in 2013, 3.5% less than in 2012. There were also 489 adoptions recorded in Scotland for 2013.

Looking at marriage, there were 27,547 marriages recorded in Scotland in 2013, with the average age at which people marry for the first time has increasing by around two years since 2003. For men, the average age is now 33.0 years, while it is 31.2 years for women.
