When asked how much money they felt to be a "comfortable" amount to earn each year, the most popular answer was "£1 million".
The findings have been published by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, who asked more than 1,300 children what they would like to be when they grow up. While being rich was the top priority for many kids, it was closely followed by being "famous". It wasn't all fame and fortune as the more traditional career choices of doctor, vet and fire-fighter made the top 10, but despite many children saying they know what they aspire to be, some 51% of the parents polled admitted their offspring has "uncertain career prospects" ahead.
A further 32% went as far as to say they didn't think their child was intelligent enough, while 27% believed their child would "lack drive and ambition" when they are older.
George Charles, spokesperson for VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, said: "It's a real shame that 6% of children are of the mind-set that they don't want to work when they are older.
"Even though no youngster between five and ten years old really knows what they want to be when they grow up, thinking that they don't want a job at all is probably down to the benefits culture of Britain.
"Still, to see that the majority of children said that they want to be rich when they are older is promising. They just need the right encouragement and a good education to set the foundations for a brilliantly bright future. Then, perhaps, that million pound salary won't seem so unachievable after all."
Children's top 10 future aspirations are:
1. Just want to be rich (22%)
2. Famous (19%)
3. Police Officer (16%)
4. Zookeeper (14%)
5. Fire Fighter (13%)
6. Doctor (10%)
7. Vet (8%)
8. Bus Driver (7%)
9. Shop Keeper (7%)
10. Don't want to work (6%)
