More than a third of couples have argued while on holiday – because they continue to check their work emails, it has been claimed.
The new survey, conducted by online travel agent Travel Republic, found that while a holiday should be a time for rest and relaxation, it is hard for some individuals to switch off from 'work mode'. In fact, men are said to find it more difficult to let go of work commitments, than women.
While on holiday, the study found that 52% of people will check their work emails when they should be enjoying themselves, while a 26% also spend time replying to emails.
42% of men said they try not to look at work emails while on holiday, compared to 54% of women. The issue is a tricky one however, as it has also caused 36% of couples to argue while they've been away on holiday. Some 70% of women said they have a problem if their partner checks emails when they are holiday, compared to just 58% of men who said it was a problem.
Elliot Pritchard, Travel Republic's Chief Marketing Officer, commented: "We initially wanted to understand the emotions people experience when preparing to leave the office for annual leave, and the biggest emotion is relief (46%).
"As workplaces become busier, annual leave becomes more of a luxury, but the reality is that many office workers cannot completely turn off."
