It is understood the aim of the poll was to discover how big a role social media plays in a modern wedding. Some of the other findings include 28% of brides-to-be updating their relationship status on social media sites within hours of getting engaged. A further 24% said they update their status the day after they say 'yes'.
Hashtags also proved popular on social networks, with many women using a specific hashtag in relation to their wedding. For example, the study found that 55% of women used a specific moniker for their wedding, while 20% shared the hashtag on their wedding ceremony programs. A further 10% did not use a hashtag to document their big day – but now wish that they had.
However, when it comes to the actual wedding day, it would appear the bride and groom are not as keen for their guests to get involved with the social networking aspect. In fact, 31% of brides said they stopped wedding guests from sharing pictures of their ceremony on social media, and 35% said they have 'mixed feelings' about guests posting photos.
Lastly, the poll found that while 89% of brides will turn to planning apps to help them prepare for their wedding, many brides plan to continue using social media after the big day – with 73% saying they plan to update their accounts during their honeymoon.
