The 31-year-old singer made the confession during an interview with Radio 1's Greg James on Friday morning.
Cheryl and her husband, Jean-Bernard Fernadez-Versini were only in a relationship for three months before they tied the knot, having met at the Cannes Film Festival in May. They married on 7 July on the Caribbean island of Mustique with just four guests in attendance, but the X Factor judge did not reveal the news until two weeks later.
When asked about her surprise marriage on Radio 1, she replied: "I would have actually kept it that way [secret] but unfortunately it was leaked. But I'm happy it's out there."
Cheryl was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole, but following allegations that he had been unfaithful, they divorced in 2010. Following their separation, she kept her married surname explaining that she "wasn't ashamed" of her marriage. However, last week she dropped her ex-husband's surname from her Twitter handle, later confirming that she is to take her new partner's name and become Mrs Fernandez-Versini.
