58% Of Adults Still Have Parents Tidy Their Homes

A new survey has found that a majority of young people still have parents that visit their house – to tidy.

Some 58% of 18 to 24-year-olds polled admitted that their parent still comes around to their home to do a little tidying. The survey, conducted by Zoflora, also found that 45% of 25 to 34-year-olds said the same, as did 36% of those aged 35 to 44.

25% of the 2,000 people who took part felt they are cleaner than their mothers, but as the survey revealed, just seven in 10 adults aged 24 or younger actually vacuumed their house once a week or more. One in five (21%) of those aged 55 and over said they hoover once a day. When it comes to cleaning, 19% confessed they have a specific routine, while 36% prefer to tidy up as they go along.

For 25%, they prefer to avoid cleaning altogether – by hiring a cleaner to do the work for them.

When it comes to the different generations, 54% of the younger participants felt their parents did a better job of cleaning the house, but 85% admitted they make more of effort themselves if they are expecting company.

Microbiologist Professor Mark Fielder of Kingston University, London, is quoted as saying: "The Zoflora poll has revealed that home cleaning might not be quite as good as we may hope. Regular cleaning of the home is important and helps to maintain a good clean living environment."
