The couple's relationship has been of much speculation in recent months, but it is thought they are closer than ever to ending their marriage.
According to The New York Post's Page Six, the pair are planning to split after their joint world tour – On The Run – comes to an end later this year.
A source is quoted as saying: "There are no rings, if you haven't noticed. They are trying to figure out a way to split without divorcing. This is a huge concert tour and they've already gotten most of the money from the promoters up front."
It is thought to be the final resort for the couple who reportedly attended counselling sessions to try and save their marriage. The insider added: "For just a split moment, things got real for them and she was even talking about adding to the family.
"But, after a while, Jay was out doing Jay and Bey was out doing Bey. They made the classic mistake of thinking a child would change everything and help to rekindle the initial fire, and it didn't."
The separation allegations comes just months after leaked footage from an elevator revealed Beyoncé's sister Solange attacked Jay-Z as the trio made their way out a Met Ball after-party in New York. Following the incident, they released a statement saying: "At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."
However, many have claimed the argument was regarding Beyoncé and Jay-Z's relationship.
Beyoncé, 32, and Jay-Z, 44, are thought to have started dating in 2002 after collaborating on "'03 Bonnie & Clyde", which appeared on Jay-Z's seventh album. They kept their relationship out of the public eye and in April 2008, they married in a quiet ceremony.
In August 2011, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together, and in January 2012, Beyoncé gave birth to a daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
