In 2011, Cole was selected by the music mogul to join the judging line up of The X Factor USA. However, after just three weeks, she was sacked from the job. The decision caused a rift between the pair who had previously had a close friendship. They have since made up, with Cole and Cowell reuniting for this year's season of The X Factor UK.
The former Girls Aloud singer first started dating footballer Ashley Cole in September 2004. They announced their engagement in June 2005 and married the following July. In February 2010, the singer confirmed she was separating from her husband. She filed for divorce in May, and in September 2010 she was granted a decree nisi.
