Women Wear Red Lipstick To Impress Male Employers

A new study has found that a number of women turn to old-fashioned tactics when it comes to getting ahead in the workplace.

Some 1,000 women took part in the research, which was commissioned for online beauty retailer Escentual.com, and it was revealed that 40% of these admitted to wearing red lipstick in the workplace – so they could attract attention from a male boss.

A further 60% said they wore heavy eye make-up, such as dark eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara, in order to draw attention to themselves.

Shockingly, 40% of women believed this is the only way they can gain a promotion in their job.

Clothes is another factor for many women when it comes to being noticed in work, as 49% said they would forego a conservative dress code and choose a low-cut top and high heels in order to progress in their career.

While many used the above tactics to try and further their employment opportunities, there are some women, who also have ulterior motives. For example, 58% of women admitted they had a crush on their boss at one stage, with only 26% of those saying they would keep their feelings to themselves.

Some 22% of women had acted on their attraction, having had romantic encounters with men in the workplace.

Commenting on the findings, Emma Leslie, beauty editor for Escentual.com, said: "A red lip is no longer a look reserved for a date or a night out.

"For whatever reasons, more and more women are introducing red lipstick into their office make-up routine, but it's important to make sure you don't go overboard."
