Hayler said: "I promised Kate I would do a lie detector test. It was horrible. It felt like being on death row in the electric chair.
"I had read so much cr*p about these tests being inaccurate so I convinced myself I had a 50/50 chance of getting away with it. But Kate has a sixth sense and kept saying, 'I know there is more'."
He added: "I couldn't lie anymore. I've watched Jeremy Kyle on ITV and seen plenty of guys confessing on the show. It made me think, 'That's the person I am'."
Hayler, who married the former glamour model in January 2013, said he then confessed to his wife – who responded by saying she was filing for divorce.
He then went on to partly blame Pountney for their tryst, claiming: "I am blaming myself a lot and at the same time I find myself hating Jane.
"I feel like she is the one who has done this to the family. She made me do this - she didn't say, 'No'.
"She was meant to be Kate's best friend and she didn't even apologise."
Price and Hayler have one child together, a son named Jett Riviera, who was born in August 2013. Just days before news of the affair broke, the former model confirmed she was pregnant with their second child. Price is also a mother to Harvey, 12, Junior, eight, and six-year-old Princess from previous relationships.
