Women spend an average of six hours getting ready for the first night of passion with a new lover, a new study has revealed.
According to the poll, conducted by Bluebella, 33% of women will book themselves a facial while 32% opt for a spray tan and a massive 76% make sure their hair is professionally styled.
Furthermore, 63% admit to buying a new lingerie set, while 36% refuse to wear underwear they had worn with a previous partner, and around a fifth of women surveyed said that new bed linen was an essential part of their preparation for a night of passion.
They may seem like small steps, but they soon add up – and this opinion appears to be supported by 54% of women who said they spend around six hours preparing for their first night between the sheets with a new boyfriend.
Some 1,000 women took part in the study, and it was found that food also plays a key role on the night. For example, 74% of women said they would not eat carb-based dishes – so that their stomach is as flat as possible.
Commenting on the findings, Emily Bendell, founder of the lingerie brand Bluebella, said: "Moving the relationship up a gear is a significant step for many women.
"They want the night to be perfect - for themselves and their partner. That means looking and feeling their absolute best so this ritual list makes complete sense.
"Of course most men probably wouldn't notice things like a fresh pedicure - but these kind of rituals make a woman feel her most confident self - and confidence is the sexiest accessory of all.
"Lingerie especially plays a huge role for women in a couple's first time. If your wrapping paper is enticing, it makes the gift within even more so!"
The 'Top 10' preparation essentials are said to be:
1. Professional hairstyling (76%)
2. Banning carbs at dinner (74%)
3. Purchase new lingerie (63%)
4. Waxing (53%)
5. Facial (33%)
6. Salon spray tan (32%)
7. Buy a new dress (31%)
8. Mani-pedicures (28%)
9. Buy new bed linen (20%)
10. Monitoring their partners' alcohol intake (19%).
