The couple are said to be planning to celebrate the announcement when Cox turns 50 next month.
According to Heat magazine, the former Friends' star will host a lavish ceremony to celebrate the milestone, but while she is keeping details of the event a secret, it is thought the party will also provide the perfect opportunity to announce their wedding news.
A source is quoted by the publication as saying: "She's throwing a big party at home in LA and it looks like it'll be more than a birthday bash. She's asked guests to wear white and dress smart – and has let slip that there's going to be a BIG surprise."
Cox has also reportedly asked her daughter Coco and ex-husband David Arquette to play a role on the big day.
"Coco's going to be a bridesmaid and David has been asked to make a speech. They want to put on a united front and show that everyone's happy," the source added.
Cox, 49 and 37-year-old McDaid were first rumoured to be in a relationship last year. This was then confirmed by singer Ed Sheeran who set the pair up.
