Reports that the couple had married first emerged a report by E!, but a representative for the actress has since confirmed the news.
The Oscar-winning actress publicly came out as gay during a speech at last year's Golden Globe Awards.
No details about the wedding have been released, but Foster lives in California – one of the 17 US states and the District of Columbia where same-sex marriage is legal.
Foster, 51, and Ms Hedison, a photographer and actress, are thought to have started dating last year. Prior to this, Foster was in a 20-year relationship with Cydney Bernard. The couple ended their romance in 2008 and have two sons together. Hedison previously dated US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.
