A man accused of taking part in a sham marriage is alleged to have been involved in a previous fake wedding.
According to reports, the man, named as Elvis Asaah and originally from Cameroon, was detained in December 2013 as he acted as a witness to a sham wedding ceremony at Newtownards Registry Office, Co Down. The 'groom', also said to be from Cameroon and the French bride-to-be were also detained.
However, the High Court in Belfast has now been told that 30-year-old Asaah is also being linked to a fake wedding in Scotland which took place five months earlier.
In addition, a prosecution lawyer claimed Mr Asaah was planning a third sham marriage at the time of his arrest.
Mr Asaah faces a charge of assisting unlawful immigration.
A defence barrister claimed his client has not been charged over any other incident, but understood that Asaah would most likely not be allowed to stay in the UK following his case.
The accused had originally moved to Wales on a visa to continue his studies after gaining a degree in his native country. Mr Asaah was granted bail, on the condition he surrenders his passport and puts up a £1,000 surety.
