The poll, conducted by confused.com, found that 47% of men will buy their mum a gift this Sunday, compared to 44% who treated their other half for Valentine's last month.
One reason for this appears to be that mums are easier to by for, with 27% admitting their partner is the most difficult person to buy something for.
And when it comes to the cost, men will spend – on average – £26 on a gift for Mother's Day, with 10% spending £50 or more. This is more than women spend on their mum's on the day, with their average spending just £23.
Commenting on the findings, Nerys Lewis, head of credit cards at Confused.com, said: "It seems that we do indeed have a nation of mummy's boys! While it is traditionally daughters who are seen to be the more caring of the sexes, this year it is boys who will be splashing out on their Mums and putting the girls to shame."
