The singer is well-known for his reluctance to talk about his private life and relationships. For example, the 38-year-old has been in a long-term relationship with former tennis star Anna Kournikova but he rarely discusses the issue.
In an interview with E! News, the singer explained he does so because distancing his work and home life is important for him.
He said: "For me, my personal life, I do try to keep it as private as possible because I need that balance.
"When I go back home I want to make sure that whatever goes on in my house is just for me and my loved ones with me that are right there. I need that."
However, he added: "I understand why people ask, 'Are you married? Do you have a girlfriend? Do you wanna have kids? Do you have kids that we don't know about?'
"It's understandable."
It is thought Iglesias and Kournikova started dating in late 2001. In October 2013, media reports claimed the couple had separated but earlier this year they were thought to either still be together, or to have reconciled.
