Andrew Salmon, 42, was also accused of physically attacking his wife Beverley in the incident.
According to the Daily Mail, Mrs Salmon, also 42, was said to have assaulted her husband's late mother after she chanted: "Ding dong, the witch is dead".
Truro Magistrates' Court then heard that a row between the couple escalated with Mrs Salmon being punched by her husband. Prosecutor Gail Hawksley is quoted by the publication as saying the row started when Mrs Salmon arrived home from work to find the house locked and her clothes in bags on the ground.
Her husband is alleged to have said: "It's my house now. You are not getting in," before he locked her in the garden shed. The victim was able to climb out of the shed window and was able to use a key to get into the house but her husband grabbed her. Mrs Salmon fell and her husband tried to drag her back outside by her legs.
The couple then went upstairs where their argument continued and Mrs Salmon threw some of her partner's clothes out of the window. However, her husband is then said to have pinned her down and ripped her clothes. As he put an arm across her throat so she struggled to breathe, he is also said to have grabbed and twisted her breasts.
The paper adds that when Mr Salmond was later interviewed by police, he admitted to punching his wife and claimed that she was cheating on him. He said that his partner had not liked his mother and had not been supportive when she had passed away. Instead, she had aggravated him by repeating: "Ding dong, the witch is dead."
He also admitted to locking his wife in the couple's shed to "P*** her off", but knew she would be able to escape.
In an apology, he said: "I was provoked, but I am sorry for what I have done to my wife and regret everything I did."
He pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife and will be sentenced next month.
