The accused, 25-year-old Henri Canning, was said to have harvested hundreds of cannabis plants in his flat in Kent – in order to pay for his wedding bills.
According to the Daily Mail, the railway worker is only said to have been caught when EDP engineers, who were working in the area, found a nearby electricity metre had been tampered with. A wire was then spotted leading into Canning's makeshift factory.
Kent Police raided the property where they discovered 113 cannabis plants, which would have had a value of more than £20,000. Following the find, the father-of-one was arrested and charged with producing the Class B drug.
Canning admitted to the production of cannabis and illegally taking electricity. This week, he was jailed for 32 months at Canterbury Crown Court.
Sentencing the accused, Judge Heather Norton is quoted in the media as saying: "These are serious offences and you are a man of previous good character and someone who so many people speak so highly of you.
"Why you should find yourself doing these things to pay off debts, one of the reasons I am told, is because of your wedding debts.
"If that is right, then it is tragic that you should have got yourself into so much debts that the only way you thought you could pay them off was in the way you tried was running a cannabis factory."
Defending, Niall Doherty, said the accused "deeply regrets" his actions and had agreed to repay the electricity firm.
