The singer has been dating Casper Smart since 2011, but she has insisted that she will not be tying the knot anytime soon.
Explaining her reasons as to why in the April edition of InStyle magazine, J-Lo, who has been married three times before, said: "In the past, love for me has always meant forever and sure you still nurse those fantasies, but I don't try to force it any more.
"I hung on to my fairy tale ideals for a long time. But where I am now, what I've been through, there are no rules.
"There are lots of ways it can turn out instead of just one. There are so many different kinds of happiness, not just the one you learned about when you were five years old."
The mum-of-two added that while she might "rush things through" when it comes to love, she always tries to find out why she doesn't like to be alone.
"Look I don't love being alone. I don't," she said. "I can't beat myself up about that. What I have to do is figure out why I don't like it. Why am I not OK being alone? And can I be OK facing that?"
Lopez married Ojani Noa in February 1997, but their union came to an end in January 1998. In September 2001, the singer and actress tied the knot with former back-up dancer Cris Judd, but in June 2002, it was revealed the couple had decided to go their separate ways. Between this time, Lopez was engaged to Ben Affleck, but they called off their wedding a day before the ceremony was due to be held. In 2004, she started a relationship with Marc Anthony, one of her long-time friends. The pair married in June 2004 and in November 2007, they confirmed they were expecting their first child. It was later revealed that the couple were expecting twins. Their children, a son named Maximilian, and a daughter called Emme, were born in February 2008.
In July 2011, Lopez and Anthony confirmed they had separated, with the latter filing for divorce the following April.
