The couple were first reported to be in a relationship last year. It was then revealed by singer Ed Sheeran – who is a mutual friend of the pair – that he was the one responsible for hooking the two up.
Sheeran had previously told OMG! Insider: "I wasn't allowed to talk about this, actually, but it's just gone public. My housemate [McDaid], who I've lived with for a year, I introduced him to Courteney Cox. "They started dating and are crazy about each other and I ended up spending a lot of time living in her beach house and therefore bumping into all these random people. We spent Thanksgiving eve at Jennifer [Aniston]'s and Thanksgiving day at Courteney's."
Cox and McDaid have since been spotted together on a number of occasions, and sources close to the pair say they are planning to take the next step in their relationship. According to the US publication In Touch magazine, the pair are even said to be discussing the topic of marriage.
A source is quoted as saying: "Courteney is already talking marriage. She gushes about Johnny all the time. They're very serious."
McDaid originally hails from Derry in Northern Ireland, but is currently based in Los Angeles as he works with Sheeran on his new album. Cox, 49, was previously married to actor David Arquette. The pair tied the knot in June 1999 and welcomed a daughter, Coco, in June 2004.
In October 2010, it was revealed that Cox and Arquette had separated, with the latter filing for divorce in June 2012. Their separation was finalised in May 2013.
