From the above, 3% even went as far as to claim that their holiday fling does not count as cheating because it was on another continent.
The poll, which has been commissioned by travel comparison website KAYAK.co.uk, found that when it comes to holiday infidelity, Ibiza is the top location with 39% of respondents saying it was the location where they would be more tempted to cheat on their other half. The party island also topped the list when it comes to holiday break-ups, with 48% naming the location.
The research, named the 'Journey of Love', looked at Britons' favourite places for the different stages of their relationships. This included picking a location for a holiday fling, the place to go to when heartbroken, the most likely destination to tempt cheating on a partner and the best place to marry.
For 51% of respondents, they said they would choose a 'holiday fling' location based on how romantic it is and whether it would be a good story upon their return home. Venice was voted as the top location with 18%.
When it comes to the pain of a break-up, 23% of Britons would visit a destination where they could "find themselves" and think about what went wrong with the relationship. New York was named by 21% of respondents as their top choice for repairing a broken heart.
Sadly, however, when it comes to tying the knot abroad, the romance factor is not always top of the list, with 6% of women and 9% of men saying they would choose a destination in order to make their friends jealous. Barbados is the preferred spot for eloping (24%), while the Maldives is the favourite wedding destination (18%).
A spokesperson for travel comparison website KAYAK.co.uk, said: "We wanted to understand where, given the choice, Brits would head around the world for the different elements of the 'journey of love' and the findings were certainly enlightening.
"With January being a peak time for holiday bookings, Brits should take heed of the study, particularly if a partner suggests heading to Ibiza or Paris, as it could mean a break-up or proposal is on the cards."
